Baseplate for Single Coil Pickups
Baseplate for Single Coil Pickups
(Please read the Details)
This baseplate made of copper-plated steel attaches to the bottom of the bridge pickup of a Strat and is subsequently treated to reduce microphonic feedback. Its aim is to fatten up the tone of the bridge pickup while attenuating the highs, similar to the plate on older Telecasters. This could be the answer if your stock bridge pickup is overly bright. In addition to enhancing the lows, the mid-range frequencies are also boosted, resulting in a thicker, deeper sound. A steel plate also directs the magnetic field of the pickup toward the strings, giving it additional bite and presence.
Grounding
The baseplate must be connected to ground in order to benefit from the additional shielding it can give. Simply attach a piece of wire to the baseplate and connect it to earth, including the back of a pot or a solder terminal on the pickup's ground wire — usually the black one.
Note:
This can also be used for Neck & Bridge pickup to achieve the same results.
