Icho De Luna
Solo Artist / Session Guitarist
Playstyle & Tone Profile:
Groove-oriented jazz, blues, funk, and gospel driven by dynamic storytelling.
Musical Journey & Growth
- A Sibling Spark: Icho's musical journey began in 2004, inspired simply by watching his brother play their favorite songs on the guitar. That initial spark ignited a lifelong passion, driving him to learn the instrument and eventually establish himself as a highly sought-after player in the local scene.
- Return to the Roots: While he has spent years backing some of the country's biggest acts, Icho is currently focusing on writing, recording, and releasing his own original music. This new chapter marks a return to his deep musical roots, exploring his love for jazz, blues, and what he describes as "groove" music—encompassing funk, gospel, and pop.
Musical Influences &
Sonic Philosophy
- The Art of Storytelling: His approach to the guitar is deeply shaped by artists like Athletic Progression, John Scofield and Marcus King. Rather than just focusing on technical emulation, these artists have profoundly influenced how Icho listens to music and how he approaches the underlying storytelling behind every song and composition.
- Silent, Studio-Ready Tone: To capture his dynamic, groove-heavy sound, Icho relies on a Boss GT1000 paired with meticulously crafted guitars. His main workhorse is a Guitar Harbour Alon equipped with Montances-rewound stacked single coils (a 50s Strat-inspired neck and 50s Broadcaster-inspired bridge). For recording versatility, he turns to a J-Craft Strat loaded with M-Tone pickups. Both instruments are fully wired and shielded by Montances to ensure dead-quiet, studio-ready performance.
The Montances difference is the quality and reliability of the electronics of my guitars. Not only did Montances help me make the guitars sound even more like what I’ve imagined but the shielding and wiring have made the guitars that much more reliable in gigs and recording sessions.
