Musical Journey & Growth

  • From Violin to Classical Guitar: Adrik began his musical journey at five years old on the violin before switching to the guitar at age eight. After initially exploring rock on the electric guitar, he found his true calling and transitioned fully to the classical guitar by the time he was twelve.
  • Educator and Ensemble Performer: Today, he is deeply involved in the music community as an educator at De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde and St. Paul University Manila. He actively performs with the PIMA Guitar Quartet, balancing his classical roots with crossover explorations into Filipino folk, Broadway, and pop genres.
  • The Art of Arranging: Beyond his performance career, Adrik is a passionate arranger, creating intricate music for guitar quartets and diverse small ensembles, including combinations with flute, violin, and voice.

Sonic Philosophy

  • Classical Guitar Masters: As a performer, he draws profound inspiration from classical guitar virtuosos like Marco Tamayo, the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet, and Pepe Romero. Over time, he has evolved past idolizing specific artists, preferring to deeply appreciate the unique qualities every musician brings to their craft.
  • Genre-Defying Arrangements: As an arranger, his influences shatter the boundaries of classical music. He actively studies how elements from diverse genres can be combined, drawing from the classical genius of W.A. Mozart and Maurice Ravel to the iconic pop and rock sensibilities of Michael Jackson, Iron Maiden, and KISS.

Strings – La Bella 2001 Classical Guitar Strings are my main choice for my concert instruments, such as Masaki Sakurai and Yuichi Imai guitars. They provide a good balance of warmth and brilliance, complementing the guitars very well. They also add a bit of power, allowing the instruments to project more effectively. For my practice and gig instruments, I have grown to love the Preferita. They are affordable, long-lasting, and have a great tone. The MGW cables are just great. They’re very sturdy, produce almost no noise when moved, and the transmission is excellent. They still function well despite some sound systems having some issues. Plus, they’re incredibly reliable and feel very well-built. Looking forward to continue using them.

Adrik is a highly decorated classical guitarist, holding First Prize titles from numerous prestigious events, including NAMCYA 2020, the Sakurai Kohno Hanoi International Guitar Festival, and the Thailand International Guitar Competition. In recognition of his global excellence, he was awarded the "Ani ng Dangal" by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts in 2023. His expansive live performance resume spans international solo concerts in Spain, China, and Thailand, alongside high-profile engagements with the PIMA Guitar Quartet across South Korea, Singapore, and prestigious local venues like Malacañang.
